It has been an interesting experience living in Canada and being able to experience the differences between my culture and the Canadian culture. The first contrast I see is in the life in the cities. In my hometown, there are over 10 million people in a smaller space. Here in Calgary there are less people however people is still stressed about the traffic and the organization, when compared to my country is would be a perfect very organized city.
I’m not sure why people seems to be less stressed about the problems of the city, maybe is because people is used to it and have other things to worry about, in contrast people worry about other things that Canadians don’t worry about like the access to a good health care system or an education.
Additionally, there are many other cultural differences. The family values are very different. Sometimes I would think that there are not values, but after thinking about it, it is just different. People in Canada are very independent, contrarily in Mexico families are the center of society and people thinking about the family first and then about them.
Family days are very important, and we always try to have family time. Here people seem to have a better balance between family and the individual.
This is why I think that there is a cultural shock, not exactly because one culture is better than the other, but different and unique.
